A lawyer by training, Vlad Batrincea is a stubborn defender of pro-Russia policy and advertises the affiliation of Moldova to the Moscow-led Euroasian Union. He had started his political career with the Communists Party (PCRM) and then migrated to the Socialists Party (PSRM) where he has earned the profile of one of the most active participants in PSRM-led protests. The party thanked him by securing him a seat in Parliament after the November 2014 elections. He is remembered in particular for tearing off to pieces a map of Great Romania during a legislative session, thus expressing his disagreement over an order issued by the Education Ministry.
Mr. Batrincea was PSRM’s candidate in the constituency №28 Chisinau where he defeated his main rival from ACUM Alexandru Slusari by less than 1,000 votes. In the new legislative body Vlad Batrincea takes over the leadership of PSRM faction and acts as deputy chairman of the parliamentary commission for external policy and European integration.
