In 2014, immediately after her appointment as a judge for a five-year term Olga Bejenari was suspended upon her request to spend four years in a maternity leave. She returned to work in February 2018. A few months later she processed the case related to the crime in the Atrium entertainment center, where two K1 fighters - Mihai Pirgaru and Aurel Ignat - beat a young man to his death.

Mrs. Bejenari tried to avoid this case and even submitted her formal resignation - which she withdrew later. Surprisingly, in February 2020 President Igor Dodon updated her mandate till the retirement age and in June 2020 Olga Bejenari cleared one suspect of all charges and sentenced the other for hooliganism. Mr. Pirgaru walked free from the courtroom while Mr. Ignat was slapped a fine of 50,000 for disturbing public order, plus 10,000 lei in damages to the family of the defunct.

This judgement generated a public fury. Justice Minister Fadei Nagacevschi described the judiciary system as “yet very sick” while President Dodon promised to use his powers in order to review whether the judge or the prosecutor had acted unlawfully.
