A mechanical engineer by formation, Iurie Plopa worked for a short period for the Ministry of Interior Affairs, and then moved into the farming sector. He has had employments at several agricultural companies, and he also has run an agri-business of his own in Ocnita District.

Publicly available information indicates that during 2015-2020, his firm Nord-Expofruct SRL filed no financial reports with the National Statistical Bureau, but the State Fiscal Service had the firm’s name in a list of businesses that were obliged to use the electronic invoice (e-factura) mechanism.

Mr. Plopa has also acquired more than 220 farmland plots totaling over 180 hectares worth some 2.3 million lei, in Donduseni District. Many of transactions needed to be approved by a court of law.

After a brief affiliation with the Moldovan Liberal Democratic Party, in late 2015 he joined the Moldovan Socialists Party. Was elected as a district councilor in Ocnita. After the 2019 local polls, he was promoted to the post of chairman of Ocnita District, as a Socialist representative.
