In December 2019, the new ruling alliance removed Viorel Morari from the leadership of the Anticorruption Prosecution Office and Serghei Gavajuc became the interim director of the institution. He remained in the same post even after Mr. Morari got suspended to face criminal charges.
Serghei Gavajuc has been an active officer in the Anticorruption Prosecution Office since 2005. Prior to this appointment he had acted as a deputy to the chief prosecutor and head of the North Division of the Anticorruption Prosecution Office.
In 2016, the general assembly of prosecutors elected Serghei Gavajuc a member of the performance assessment panel in the Higher Council of Prosecutors.
