Iurie Iordan’s career as a magistrate started in 1997, when he was offered a post in the court of Hincesti. In 2007 he earned his age limit appointment and shortly moved to the Chisinau Court of Appeal. In 2016, then President Nicolae Timofti promoted Mr. Iordan to the post of deputy chairman of the Chisinau Court of Appeal.

Controversies surround the name of Mr. Iordan. One of those is the case of former Democratic MP Valeriu Guma, who had been sentenced to four years in prison by the High Court of Appeal and Justice in Romania, in absentia, for corruption. But when Romanian authorities asked Moldova to act for extradition or imprisonment, the latter recognized the sentence - on one hand - and then conditionally suspended it for a four-year period, on the other hand. The ruling was issued by a low court judge, Ghenadie Pavliuc, and his colleagues in the Court of Appeal, including Iurie Iordan maintained this ruling and Mr. Guma continued to enjoy his life in freedom.
