Alexandr Martynov was nominated as the prime minister of the unrecognized Transnistrian republic in eastern Moldova in December 2016, by a decree issued by “president” Vadim Krasnoselsky. Prior to this job he had served as a member of the Supreme Council, the parliament of the secessionist enclave. There he acted as the head of the commission for economy, budget, and finance, as well as an adviser to the Supreme Council speaker.
A RISE Moldova investigation depicted Mr. Martynov as an active businessman while in public service: in parallel with his political activity he used to run business connected with the Sheriff group, and many other politicians did just the same. Alexandr Martynov among others managed the economic division of Sheriff Football Club, and later worked as the economic director of the Tiraspol Baking Plant - which too was part of the Sheriff holding.
