Iurie Ghervas is a prosecutor representing the state in trials held at the Supreme Court of Justice. Earlier he worked at Section #1 of the Criminal Investigation Department and for a while he held the interim leadership there.

In 2010, Mr. Ghervas was summoned before a disciplinary board for questioning about his decision not to prosecute a police officer who had used his sidearm to fire at a car full of family members. The prosecutor-general later ordered a probe regarding the officer. As a consequence Mr. Ghervas received a “severe” formal warning in March 2010, which the prosecutor-general dismissed as too mild. The same month the disciplinary board degraded Iurie Ghervas who meanwhile apologized for wrongdoing.

A human rights watchdog, Jurists for Human Rights, says the actions undertaken by prosecutor Iurie Ghervas have been deliberated at the European Court of Human Rights, in a case of detention of a plaintiff in inhumane conditions.

The name of prosecutor Ghervas also appears in the dossier about Andrei Pintea, a convicted deputy to the prosecutor-general, who has been released under amnesty regulations, according to a coverage by RISE Moldova. Mr. Pintea had ordered Mr. Ghervas to pass the evidence regarding the criminal activity by Grigore Caramalac to the Russian authorities, for trial on Russian territory, on the ground that Mr. Caramalac - a Moldovan national - was also a Russian citizen. Mr. Caramalac upon his release immediately fled to Russia, without being prosecuted in either country.

Iurie Ghervas has been married to a judge at the Supreme Court of Justice, Maria Ghervas. The couple owns a house over 160 square meters, an apartment, two garages, and shares in a number of firms.
