Corneliu Popovici has worked as a university lecturer and head of department in several higher education institutions in Moldova. He also held administrative positions in academic establishments, such as deputy rector of the Presidential Academy for Public Administration or deputy rector of the Moldovan Institute for International Relations.
During the years 2010-2015, Mr. Popovici acted as the deputy chairman of DAAC-Hermes SA, a company owned by businessman Vasile Chirtoca, now a Socialist member of the Chisinau Municipal Council.
When Socialist Party leader Igor Dodon won the presidential election in late 2016, Mr. Popovici became his adviser for education, culture, and research - until November 2019, when he took over as the new minister of education, culture, and research in the cabinet led by Ion Chicu.
Mr. Popovici holds a license in history from the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iasi, Romania, and a doctor’s degree in philosophy from the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology, and Law in the Moldovan Academy of Sciences.
