A lawyer by occupation, Ion Cretu is one of the four law lecturers who were chosen by the Parliament in March 2020 to serve in the High Council of Magistrates (CSM) on a four-year mandate.
Mr. Cretu is a lecturer at the Law Department of the State University of Moldova (USM), since 1998. Since 2009 he also lectures at the National Justice Institute. He also runs a law office, obtaining in 2014 a license of authorized administrator. This latter job is most lucrative - the man earned more than 1.2 million lei in 2019 from this activity.
The new member of CSM has indicated in his revenue statement that he owns three residences, three apartments, and a number of land fields - all of which he estimated as more than 4.2 million lei.
Mr. Cretu owns shares in two firms. One is Victoria Novaten SRL, a legal consultancy he founded with Ana Avornic, wife of another CSM member Gheorghe Avornic. The other is Liutinos SRL, where Ion Cretu holds 10%.
