An economist at her base, she was a finance minister and prime minister during the post-Soviet communist era. In 2011, together with Igor Dodon and Veronica Abramciuc she deserted the Moldovan Party of Communists and joined the Moldovan Party of Socialists (PSRM). Zinaida Greceanii’s career is all about the public service. She has defended an openly pro-Russian policy along her career.

Zinaida Greceanii’s husband, Alexei, was involved in a scandal related to cash withdrawals from Banca de Economii. He acted as a member of the managing board of Cojusna Winery, which had taken credits that were never paid back.
