 Ion Druta
 judge
Date of Birth: 20.01.1967
Citizenship: Republic of Moldova
His career began in 1994, at the Botanica Districtual Court in Chisinau, where 12 years later he made to its chairman. In 2013 Mr. Druta got transferred to the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) and five years later he got promoted as CSJ’s chairman.

In 2019, on 25 June, the High Council of Magistrates removes him from chairmanship following a complaint from a fellow judge who felt pressured and harassed by his chief. The Chisinau Court of Appeal restored Ion Druta to his post a month later. The Prosecutor-General’s Office moved in and on 2 October 2019 - one day after submission of his formal resignation - investigative officers held the judge for 72 hours to question him on allegations of illicit enrichment.

Along his career in the judiciary system Ion Druta had examined cases involving financial disputes between the state and the private sector, and he is known for issuing controversial and sometimes illegal decisions that had drained the public budget. One is linked to a company called Aroma-Floris - on this case the Supreme Court of Justice obliged the High Council of Magistrates to let prosecutors investigate Ion Druta for issuing an illegal decision.

In April 2015, Mr. Druta ordered the Moldovan Government to pay out more than 14 million lei to a firm called Basconslux SRL for the demolition of the Republican Stadium in the capital back in 2007. His decision was favorable to the firm in spite of the fact that it had skipped participation in a public tender to earn the contract in strict compliance with the law. In August 2015, Deputy Minister of Finance Maria Caraus filed a complaint with the High Council of Magistrates over the gross injustice.

Ion Druta had been twice questioned by the National Integrity Authority (ANI), in 2014 and 2015. In the first hearing he was acquitted over charges of false statements and in the second hearing ANI found “minor deviations” but stressed “they were not intentional” and cleared the judge of suspicions.
