Elena Cobzac’s career as a magistrate began in 1996; then President Mircea Snegur appointed her as a judge at the Riscani District Court in Chisinau.

In 2014 Mrs. Cobzac advanced to the Court of Appeals in Chisinau, and four years later she obtained a seat in the Supreme Court of Justice.

The magistrate is known for decisions that were later overruled by the European Court of Human Rights. According to a Governmental Agent performance report dating 2013 for the High Council of Magistrates, the Strasbourg-based court examined two rulings bearing the signature of Mrs. Cobzac.
