Nicolai Dudoglo
politician
Date of Birth: 13.03.1966
Place of Birth: city of Comrat, Comrat municipality
Citizenship: Republic of Moldova
With background education as a sports trainer and master’s degree in free style wrestling, Nicolae Dudoglo’s career kicked off at the Sports School of Comrat, where he trained young wrestlers and later he took over as the head of the Comrat Boarding Sport School.
In 2002 Mr. Dudoglo was promoted to lead the Youth and Sport Department of the Gagauzian executive committee (regional government) and two years later he got elected to the post of mayor of Comrat, the autonomy’s capital. He also served as an elected member of the regional parliament (people’s assembly). In 2006 he ran for the seat of Bashkan, or head of the executive committee, but lost to Mikhail Formuzal in the second round. Mr. Dudoglo tried his chances again in 2010 and again was defeated by Mr. Formuzal in the second round.
On the other hand, Mr. Dudoglo won a seat in the Parliament in Chisinau in 2014, on behalf of the Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM). In 2018 he handed down his mandate and left PDM, citing the incombatibility of his tenure as the chairman of the New Gagauzia Association, a non-profit, with PDM’s principles.
In 2015, before withdrawing from the Moldovan Parliament, Mr. Dudoglo tried for the third time to win the post of Gagauzian bashkan, again without luck. Irina Vlah, his opponent, earned more than half of the votes in the first round. During that campaign, Mr. Dudoglo advertised for establishing a “people’s bank” in the Gagauzian autonomy - an idea supported by his campaign staff activist Vitali Cebanu, a local businessman.
Three months after his defeat in the Gagauzian leadership election, Nicolai Dudoglo participated in the mayoral election in Comrat, losing to his opponent from Our Party, Serghei Anastasov, in the second round.
In the February 2019 parliamentary elections Nicolai Dudoglo stood as an independent candidate in the uninominal constituency #45 in Comrat. He lost the election to Socialist Alexandr Suhodolschi.
