Sveatoslav Moldovan was appointed a judge at the Soroca Court in 1992, two years after his graduation from the Law Department of the Moldovan State University. Three years later he was transferred to the Buiucani District Court in Chisinau.
In 1999 Mr. Moldovan took a magistrate’s job at the Municipal Tribunal in the capital and in 2001 he moved to Moldova’s Court of Appeals. In 2003 he joined the Supreme Court of Justice and in 2017 he became its representative for judiciary inspection in the Higher Council of Magistrates. In 2019 Sveatoslav Moldovan returned to the top court.
On 7 February 2020 Mr. Moldovan deposited his mandate as a judge and 11 days later the European Court of Human Rights found Moldova guilty in the Gemeni Case and ordered the Government to pay 1.5 million euros in damages. Sveatoslav Moldovan is one of the national judges who had examined that case.
