Petru Moraru began his career in 1991, in Cahul - a city in southern Moldova, acting as a prosecutor’s aide and later as a deputy prosecutor. Ten years later he was appointed as the chief of the Cahul branch of the Human Rights Center and in 2003 Mr. Moraru took over as a judge at the Cahul District Court, by decree of then President Vladimir Voronin.
In 2010 Petru Moraru advanced to the office of chairman of the Cahul District Court and in 2014 he was assigned to the Supreme Court of Justice, in the panel for criminal cases. From there, he moved to the Higher Council of Magistrates in 2017.
In 2014 Mr. Moraru was scrutinized by the National Integrity Authority over alleged mismatches in his 2013 declaration of revenues and properties but found only “a few mechanical errors.”
