Petru Iarmaliuc has earned his license in law at the Free International University of Moldova; there he has also completed a master’s program. While a student, he benefited from internships at the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office and at the Ministry of Justice. His CV states Mr. Iarmaliuc’s professional career kicked off in 2014, the year he got employed as a legal consultant at the state-owned Center of Applied Metrology and Certification.
Mr. Iarmaliuc served as the chief of staff of the Liberal Reformer Party faction (PLR) in November through December 2014. During the parliamentary polls in 2014, Mr. Iarmaliuc ran for a seat in the legislative body, getting the 20th place in the PLR list of candidates. The party, however, earned not one mandate and remained outside the Parliament.
In August 2015, he got employed at the Agency for Interventions and Payments in Agriculture, until November 2016. In March 2017, Mr. Iarmaliuc got hired as an advisor to the head of the
Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
In 2017 – 2019, Petru Iarmaliuc studied at the National Justice Institute, the facility that trains future judges and prosecutors, working in parallel as a volunteer at the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
In June 2019, he returned to the job of consultant, this time at the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office; in December same year he was appointed as prosecutor at the same institution. Two years later, Mr. Iarmaliuc moved his office at the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
As part of the system, Mr. Iarmaliuc has conducted several high-profile investigations such as the case against Igor Popa, former head of the Ciocana District division of the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office, who was suspected of illicit enrichment. In May 2022, he emerged to greater public attention for his leading role in the investigation of the former Moldovan president Igor Dodon for corruption,
treason, illicit enrichment, and funding of his political party from criminal money.
Petru Iarmaliuc is a brother to judge Ludmila Iarmaliuc from the Orhei Court based in Telenesti. His declaration of revenues says judge Iarmaliuc donated 24,000 lei to her brother in 2021.
Mr. Iarmaliuc is an associated in a firm called Tocardo-Agro SRL, where his stake is 2.5%. The firm deals with plant growing and animal breeding. In 2020 it reported a profit of some 139,000 lei and the prosecutor earned 7,500 lei in dividends for that year.
