Until the parliamentary elections of February 2019 when he successfully ran as an independent candidate in the constituency №47, which was designed for voters from the Transnistrian region - where he easily won with 10,463 ballots, Alexandr Oleinic had exerted two older mandates.
He first entered the Parliament in 2001 as a candidate in the list of the Braghis Alliance Bloc. The second chance was validated in 2005 as a candidate of the Democratic Moldova bloc - an alliance made up of the Democratic Party, Our Moldova Alliance, and Social Liberal Party. He was in opposition to the ruling Party of Communists both times.
An Alliance for European Integration (Liberal Democratic Party, Democratic Party, Liberal Party, and Our Moldova Alliance) won the early elections in summer 2009 and Mr. Oleinic got the job of minister of information technology and communications.
In 2011 a second cabinet led by Vladimir Filat won support in the Parliament and Mr. Oleinic was replaced by Pavel Filip in the job. He withdrew in business and took over as the chairman of the National Fund for Investment Promotion, a private firm, and as the managing director of Milenium-Grup Concern.
As a political figure Alexandr Oleinic got elected in 2012 as the coordinating co-chairman of the Moldovan People’s Party and at a party congress in 2018 he became its formal leader.
