Aureliu Ciocoi is a career diplomat and like other members of the Chicu cabinet he had been part of President Igor Dodon’s adviser team. Yet Mr. Ciocoi had started as a journalist in the late 1980s - early 1990s, working for several newspapers including the parliament gazette „Sfatul Tarii”.
In March 1996 Aureliu Ciocoi joined the public service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the first half of 2000 he walked upstairs along diplomatic ranks: from a secretary at the Moldovan Embassy to Germany to the ambassador in the federal republic, and he served as Moldova’s ambassador in China and the US, and later as a special missions envoy.
In the summer of 2018, Mr. Ciocoi became a presidential adviser for foreign policy and in November 2019 he took over as the minister of foreign affairs and European integration.
In March 2020, he is appointed adviser to President Igor Dodon in the field of foreign policy, the place in the ministry being taken over by Oleg Tulea, who was appointed by the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM).
He returns to the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration in November 2020. It is happening in the middle of the election campaign for the position of president after the PDM government representatives were removed from office. The dismissal of the four ministers, as well as of the deputy prime minister for Reintegration, appointed by PDM, came as a reply given by the Chicu Government to the decision of the political party, led by Pavel Filip, who announced that, after the elections from 15 November 2020, PDM will withdraw from the government.
