Vladimir Timofti has been serving as a judge at the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) for 15 years and took over as the acting CSM chairman following the resignation of his fellow co-worker Ion Druță in October 2019 over allegation of illegal enrichment.
Mr. Timofti began his career at the Military Tribunal in Kutaisi, Georgia, where he moved immediately after the graduation from the Military Institute in Moscow. He returned to Moldova and worked as a military judge for ten years. He acted as deputy chairman in the Chisinau Military Court during 2002-2003. Mr. Timofti later joined the Supreme Court of Justice.
Vladimir Timofti was part of the justice panel that handed down prison terms in two spiking cases: the one of ex-Premier Vladimir Filat who had been sentenced for corruption and abuse of office and had his appeals rejected in February 2017; and Veacelav Platon, a controversial businessman who landed in prison for 18 years and, also, saw his appeals rejected in November 2018.
Along his career Mr. Timofti and his spouse, a notary officer, has acquired wealth that counts two houses of more than 200 square meters, an unfinished building of 100 square meters, a garage, and several land fields.
