A gas network welder by training, Piotr Puscari has been acting as the chairman of Basarabeasca District since October 2015, for a second consecutive mandate. At the local elections in 2019, Mr. Puscari tried his chances to fill in the office of Basarabeasca town’s mayor, with the support of the Moldovan Socialists Party (PSRM), unsuccessfully though.
He has failed twice to win a seat in the parliament, too – in 2014, as a PSRM candidate, and in February 2019, as a Socialist contender in the Cimislia 40 uninominal constituency.
In 2020 the National Integrity Authority (ANI) found that Mr. Puscari had provided false and incomplete information in his property and revenue declarations for the period 2015-2019. He did not report more than 120,000 lei in foreign transfers, a rented motor vehicle, and some 70,000 lei in contributions and donations for a political party and electoral campaigns.
Piotr Puscari contested ANI’s findings and won the case in a low court, claiming before the magistrates that it was his wife who had received and benefited from the money transfers, which she donated to her father.
Mr. Puscari is the chairman of Basarabeasca District’s PSRM branch and head of the local chess association.
