He won the first mandate as the mayor of Ceadir-Lunga in 2015, running as an independent candidate. He renewed his mandate in 2019, this time as a candidate of the Moldovan Socialists Party.
Anatolii Topal is a jurist by training and lectures on law at the Comrat State University in the Gagauzian autonomy. His military rank is colonel in reserve, therefore he also teaches defense and security at the same university.
In 2011, he acted as a section chief at the Military Center of Gagauzia.
In 2012-2016 he served as a member of the People’s Assembly, Gagauzia’s regional parliament.
