An economist-engineer by education, with training in law and political sciences, Vladimir Voronin had served as Moldovan president two consecutive terms during a period between 2001 and 2009.
The first ten years of his professional career he had worked in the baking industry (1961-1971). Later he got employed in various public adminitrative agencies. The nationalist movement before the collapse of the USSR caught Mr. Voronin in the post of home affairs minister.
Vladimir Voronin is one of the founders of the Moldovan Party of Communists (or Communists Party) and acted first as its co-chairman and since 2001 he has been its sole chairman.
