Grigori Colev’s career as a magistrate started in 2007, when then President Vladimir Voronin confirmed hims to a judge post in the city of Comrat.
In 2012, President Nicolae Timofti reconfirmed Mr. Colev’s assignment until the retirement age and in July 2015 the chief of state promoted him to the Comrat Court of Appeals, in the same position. Earlier Timofti had refused to promote Mr. Colev based on a report from the domestic security and intelligence service SIS.
On 31 May 2016 the High Council of Magistrates (CSM) asked President Timofti to make Mr. Colev deputy chairman of the Comrat Court of Appeals. The chief of state again opposed, showing the negative recommendation from SIS, but CSM insisted on the candidacy of Grigori Colev and the president ultimately conceded.
Almost three years later, in June 2019 Grigori Colev became the interim chairman of the Comrat Court of Appeals.
