Bailiff was the first job of Iurie Diaconu in Moldova’s judiciary system. In 1988 he was appointed as a judge in the Ciocana District Court of Chisinau, where later acted as its deputy chairman and then chairman. In 2008 Mr. Diaconu took over as a judge at the Supreme Court of Justice.

Mr. Diaconu was part of the judge panel that in 2014 freed the criminal leader Ion Druță, also known as „Vania Pisateli”. The ruling was criticized by a disciplinary commission of the High Council of Magistrates and Iurie Diaconu received an official warning.
