A graduate from the Moldovan Academy of Economic Studies, Mihail Olarescu is an economist by training, and before joining politics he was managing a number of firms, including some of his own.
In July 2015, he joined the Moldovan European People’s Party (PPEM), a fresher political actor created by ex-premier Iurie Leanca. He was also appointed PPEM’s head of the Cimislia District branch.
At the local elections the same year, Mr. Olarescu runs for a seat in the district council on behalf of PPEM. He won a mandate and later that year he obtained the seat of the district’s chairman.
Two years later, in September 2017, he quits from PPEM and in November he resigned from the chairman’s office.
In April 2019, Mr. Olarescu joined the Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM) and was promoted into leadership of PDM’s branch in Cimislia. With PDM, he ran for the post of mayor in Cimislia in 2019, with no success though. Yet he earned a mandate as a district councilor and then he reclaimed the post of chairman of Cimislia District.
The Olarescu family owns three firms: Global Lux SRL, which was founded in 2012 and deals with clothes retail; Meridian-Mall SRL, founded in 2014 and deals with the cleaning of interiors or buildings and cars; and IT OM Grup SRL, founded in 2019 as software on-demand business.
